GIG employs a staff of 535 people.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Its activities comprise: mining and geoengineering, geology and hydrogeology, geophysical engineering, industrial safety, environmental engineering, surface and structures protection in mining areas, minerals, sustainable energy technologies, social and economic issues, etc. GIG has extensive experience of acting as partner and coordinator of the European projects (FP, RFCS, ECSC, Central Europe and others).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gig.eu\/\">http:\/\/www.gig.eu\/<\/a><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span class=\"collapseomatic \" id=\"id69d499c9881f5\"  tabindex=\"0\" title=\"\u00b7 UNIVERSIDAD DE OVIEDO (UNIOVI)\"    >\u00b7 UNIVERSIDAD DE OVIEDO (UNIOVI)<\/span><div id=\"target-id69d499c9881f5\" class=\"collapseomatic_content \"><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The School of Mining, Energy and Materials Engineering from Universidad de Oviedo (UNIOVI) serves as a centre of excellence for mineral resources and environmental research. Its research includes geology, prospecting, mining, treatment plants, materials, energy, environment, valuation of environmental assets and investments, risk assessment, etc.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It has 27 research laboratories and it has participated in many RFCS\u2019s projects related with this proposal as well as other European Research Programmes such as FP, ECSC, etc. The most recent European projects in which the researchers involved in the project have participated, are: RFCS Project MERIDA &#8211; <em>Management of environmental risks during and after mine closure<\/em>, and Life Project TREMEDAL &#8211; <em>Inland wetlands of Northern Iberian Peninsula: management and restoration of mires and wet environments.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.uniovi.es\/\">http:\/\/www.uniovi.es\/<\/a><\/div><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span class=\"collapseomatic \" id=\"id69d499c988209\"  tabindex=\"0\" title=\"\u00b7 HUMBOLDT UNIVERSIT\u00c4T ZU BERLIN (&lt;\/strong&gt;&lt;strong&gt;UBER&lt;\/strong&gt;&lt;strong&gt;)\"    >\u00b7 HUMBOLDT UNIVERSIT\u00c4T ZU BERLIN (<\/strong><strong>UBER<\/strong><strong>)<\/span><div id=\"target-id69d499c988209\" class=\"collapseomatic_content \"><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Department of Geography and Laboratory for Landscape Ecology from Humboldt-Universit\u00e4t zu Berlin will be involved in the project. The Landscape Ecology Lab is a leading and collaborating partner in EU and national funded projects such as GREENSURGE and ENABLE.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It has an expert knowledge base on: ecosystem services modelling and assessment of urban and industrial areas including mining areas; land-use modelling and scenario building using GIS; and Multi-Criteria Assessment of synergies and trade-offs in ecosystem services assessment.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hu-berlin.de\/\">https:\/\/www.hu-berlin.de\/<\/a><\/div><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span class=\"collapseomatic \" id=\"id69d499c988237\"  tabindex=\"0\" title=\"\u00b7 VYSOKA \u0160KOLA BANSKA \u2013 TECHNICK\u00c1 UNIVERZITA OSTRAVA (V\u0160B)\"    >\u00b7 VYSOKA \u0160KOLA BANSKA \u2013 TECHNICK\u00c1 UNIVERZITA OSTRAVA (V\u0160B)<\/span><div id=\"target-id69d499c988237\" class=\"collapseomatic_content \">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The V\u0160B -Technick\u00e1 univerzita Ostrava (V\u0160B) was founded in 1849, and has since then grown into a modern institution of higher education. V\u0160B is the fourth largest university in Czech Republic.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Faculty of Mining and Geology from V\u0160B, which will be involved in the proposal, is a centre of excellence for mineral resources and environmental research with long tradition in the research of: post-mining landscape ecology, ecosystem development, reclamation and regeneration of post-mining landscape, soil protection, brownfields redevelopment, etc.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vsb.cz\/\">https:\/\/www.vsb.cz\/<\/a><\/div><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span class=\"collapseomatic \" id=\"id69d499c988247\"  tabindex=\"0\" title=\"\u00b7 HULLERAS DEL NORTE S.A. (HUNOSA)\"    >\u00b7 HULLERAS DEL NORTE S.A. (HUNOSA)<\/span><div id=\"target-id69d499c988247\" class=\"collapseomatic_content \"><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Hulleras del Norte S.A. (HUNOSA) is a Spanish State owned coal mining company based in Asturias, owning 3 underground coal mines in operation nowadays (and tens of closed mines) and with 1,200 employees.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">HUNOSA has been involved since the 80\u00b4s in policies to regenerate the industrial framework of mining districts. It is the biggest coal mining company in Spain and has participated in several RFCS projects with long standing expertise in environmental management. HUNOSA is now in the process of closing its underground coal mines, giving this situation an excellent opportunity to develop this proposal.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hunosa.es\/\">https:\/\/www.hunosa.es\/<\/a><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span class=\"collapseomatic \" id=\"id69d499c988254\"  tabindex=\"0\" title=\"\u00b7 TAURON WYDOBYCIE S.A. (TWD)\"    >\u00b7 TAURON WYDOBYCIE S.A. (TWD)<\/span><div id=\"target-id69d499c988254\" class=\"collapseomatic_content \"><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Tauron Wydobycie S.A. (TWD) is an important producer of power coal in the eastern part of the Silesian Coal Basin, southern Poland, controlling approximately 20% of Polish hard coal resources.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Technologies developed in Tauron Wydobycie S.A. concern excavation of hard coal, flotation enrichment, aggregate production, and mitigation of environmental impact. TWD has participated in the GEOSOFT and MANAGER international projects financed by RFCS, and now is involved in taking part in another RFCS project: CEReS.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tauron-wydobycie.pl\/\">https:\/\/www.tauron-wydobycie.pl\/<\/a><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span class=\"collapseomatic \" id=\"id69d499c988261\"  tabindex=\"0\" title=\"\u00b7 DIAMO, st\u00e1tn\u00ed podnik, od\u0161t\u011bpn\u00fd z\u00e1vod PK\u00da (PK\u00da)\"    >\u00b7 DIAMO, st\u00e1tn\u00ed podnik, od\u0161t\u011bpn\u00fd z\u00e1vod PK\u00da (PK\u00da)<\/span><div id=\"target-id69d499c988261\" class=\"collapseomatic_content \"><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The PK\u00da branch in Chlumec was established on 1 December 2021. From 1 January 2022, the Palivov\u00fd kombin\u00e1t \u00dast\u00ed, st\u00e1tn\u00ed podnik passed under this branch, through a merger with DIAMO, st\u00e1tn\u00ed podnik, and thus became part of the structure of DIAMO, st\u00e1tn\u00ed podnik.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, the PK\u00da branch is intensively engaged in the remediation, reclamation, and revitalization of the landscape damaged by mining.
